Festival Of Lights: Essay On Diwali For The Students In English

by subhasree nag

Who could deny the fact that they wait for the festival of lights the whole year? Nobody, right? I know. This Hindu festival has our hearts and is celebrated with great enthusiasm all over the country. Ever since I was a child, whenever I was asked to write an essay on my favorite festival, I wrote about Diwali.

The lights, the firecrackers, and, needless to say, the sweets were the main attractions for me. But if I am asked to write a paragraph on Diwali or a short essay on Diwali, it would have to be like this.

Short essay on Diwali for kids:

India is a diverse country with many festivals, but Diwali is among the favorites of the citizens, irrespective of age, caste, and creed. Diwali is celebrated all over the country with a lot of enthusiasm. This is a very vibrant festival with a lot of light and colors to fill your heart with that warm fuzzy feeling.

But it also has a history behind it. This festival celebrates the return of Lord Rama from his 14-year exile and his victory over Ravana. In short, this is a celebration of good over evil. Lord Ganesha and Goddess Laxmi are worshipped in this festival.

Lord Ganesha, who is considered the destroyer of all obstacles, is worshipped for his brilliance and impeccable knowledge. Goddess Laxmi is worshipped for prosperity and abundance. This is a big day for the merchants as they open new accounts on this day.

This is the time when you will fight every house lit up with lanterns and candles. Every inch of the house is decorated with lights and rangolis. When Lord Rama came back from his exile, the residents of Ayodhya decorated the streets and their houses as well with oil lamps and welcomed back their king. Since then, Diwali has been celebrated with lights and colors in order to celebrate happiness and the triumph of good over evil.

Every household lits up and smells of sweets. This is a fun time for the kids, who do not even know the reason behind the celebration. They get to light firecrackers and enjoy the day to the fullest. The religious festivities mostly happen in the evening and are followed by the celebration.

Essay on Diwali for teenagers:

In a diverse country like India, festivals are pretty vast and are an integral part of people’s lives. Every festival that is celebrated here has a meaning behind it, a legend behind it, whether it is a myth or a reality. Festivals here represent and celebrate brotherhood, social nature as well as the triumph of good over evil.

Diwali is also one such festival that celebrates the victory of good over evil with the help of color and light. This Hindu festival began when the king of Ayodhya, Lord Rama, came back from his exile after 14 years and won the battle with Ravana.

Festivals are also a great time to get to know the people around you. Exchanging sweets and gifts is an integral part of this festival, and things bring people closer as well. This festival makes us believe in sharing small happiness with the people around us and teaches us not to lose faith during dark times.

Diwali is associated with firecrackers, but it is something that is not necessary. This is the celebration of light and love, and colors. Lighting each dark corner of the house and flying some lanterns can do the work as well.

Remember not to harm any innocent animals while enjoying yourself. Burning crackers can be harmful to them and nature as well. The release of harmful gas into the atmosphere is going to harm us in the coming future. Polluting the atmosphere and making sound pollution, and disturbing the neighborhood are not necessary for celebrating the festival.

Enjoy the festival to the fullest but remember not to compromise the safety of others. Do not hurt any animals, and make sure not to harm anyone with noise and pollution. The fragrant food and the smell of freshly made sweets are the main attractions; enjoy those with your friends and family.

This is the time when families buy new clothes for the festival and also gift one family something or the other. Burning crackers that are harmless and add to the light of the festival are the best ones that you can get for yourself.

Wrapping up!

Writing an essay on Diwali is not very difficult as it is among the favorite festivals for the majority of Indian citizens. But it is important to keep in mind that your enjoyment should never cause problems for anyone around you. Stay safe and enjoy the festival with your loved ones and make sure everyone around you stays safe. Do not contribute to any kind of mishaps, and have a safe Diwali.
